Artifacts developed a GIS based model to evaluate all properties built in the City of Tacoma built between the 1850s and 1970 (over 39,000). Modeling stemmed from a city-wide preservation planning effort to update the city’s Preservation Plan. Our model and field verification identified:
This work also grew to include linking and integrating Tacoma Public Library Building Index data to include architect and builder information and historic photographs. Modeling for residential demolition waste brought together calculations and values developed in the EPA’s 2003 Estimating 2003 Building-Related Construction and Demolition Materials Amounts with Assessor building attribute data, including building type, house and basement square footage.
The project provides an important augment to the traditional survey and inventory approach to effectively guide initial research and planning efforts at a broad city and neighborhood wide scale.
